Agronomic parameters as indicators of inbred maize nitrogen status

نویسندگان

چکیده

Inbred maize (Zea mays L.) lines are grown for seed in Puerto Rico. In efforts to increase crop yields, some producers may apply nitrogen (N) fertilizer excess of nutrient requirements. The use cover crops (CC) rotation can serve as an alternative continuous cultivation maize. This experiment was conducted field plots Güamaní (fine-loamy over sandy or sandy-skeletal, mixed, superactive, isohyperthermic Torrifluventic Haplustepts) soil Guayama, cropping systems evaluated were a maize-cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] versus typical practice fallow (FA), each with five N levels. planting sequence initial spring 2014 planting, followed by winter 2014-2015 and final 2015-2016 planting. cowpea planted the summers 2014, 2015 2016. inbred female used commercial hybrid production. Mean plant densities ranged from 59,391 69,182 plants per hectare seasons. Indicators status Soil Plant Analysis Development (SPAD-502) Chlorophyll Meter®measuring leaf greenness; Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI, measured GreenSeeker®) height measurements. application significantly influenced (p<0.05) greenness (in out 13 occasions) seven 12 but not NDVI. four nine three eight occasions). agronomic parameters tested did predict yield status, thus recommended decision-making process management

Gene expression biomarkers provide sensitive indicators of in planta nitrogen status in maize.

Over the last several decades, increased agricultural production has been driven by improved agronomic practices and a dramatic increase in the use of nitrogen-containing fertilizers to maximize the yield potential of crops. To reduce input costs and to minimize the potential environmental impacts of nitrogen fertilizer that has been used to optimize yield, an increased understanding of the mol...

Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis of agronomic traits in a maize recombinant inbred line population.

Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important crops in the world. In this study, 13 agronomic traits of a recombinant inbred line population that was derived from the cross between Mo17 and Huangzao4 were investigated in maize: ear diameter, ear length, ear axis diameter, ear weight, plant height, ear height, days to pollen shed (DPS), days to silking (DS), the interval between DPS and DS, 1...

Maize response to different water, salinity and nitrogen levels: agronomic behavior

Soil water, salinity and nitrogen content are three major factors affecting crop production in arid and semi-arid areas. This study was performed in two years of 2009 and 2010 in a semi-arid area in order to investigate the effects of irrigation water quantity (as main plot), quality (saline water, as sub-plot), nitrogen fertilizer (as sub-sub plot) and their interactions on growth and yiel...

Inheritance of Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Inbred Progenies of Tropical Maize Based on Multivariate Diallel Analysis

The objective of our study was to characterize and determine the patterns of genetic control in relation to tolerance and efficiency of nitrogen use by means of a complete diallel cross involving contrasting inbred progenies of tropical maize based on a univariate approach within the perspective of a multivariate mixed model. Eleven progenies, previously classified regarding the tolerance and r...

Microbiological parameters as indicators of compost maturity.

AIMS The objectives of this study were to determine the changes of microbial properties of pig manure collected from pens with different management strategies and composted using different turning and moisture regimes; relate their association with humification parameters and compost temperature; and identify the most suitable microbial indicators of compost maturity. METHODS AND RESULTS Six ...
